Each year, all K12 schools arrange structured training to address school selected targeted areas, where opportunity for growth presents itself as demonstrated by observation evidence from the previous school year’s data. Each school chooses 4 topics that they would like to focus on. This year, NCVA will be focusing on Teacher Connections, Classroom Environment, Instructional Practices, and Learning Experiences. As you complete this training, think about ways that you can bring what you’ve learned into your daily practice.
The specific bundle will take approximately 5 hours and you have until January 31 to complete. A brief overview of the individual components is shared below:
- Classroom Culture series – there are four courses in this series that are no more than 30 minutes each. You will move through purpose, passion, presence, and positivity in short bursts to help you set and maintain the right classroom culture for your students.
- How to Scaffold – in about an hour, you will learn basic principles on scaffolding instruction to benefit students. Specifically, you will work through three principles of scaffolding – alignment, building, and communication. The importance and implementation of each are explained.
- Targeted Instruction 101 – this hour-long course is an introduction to targeted instruction and how activities, with appropriate rigor, can lead to academic growth. You will be able to define targeted instruction and use it in the classroom by moving from theory to practice.
- Targeted Instruction 102 – in the follow-up to the initial course, you will discover intentional sequencing of rigor that results in differentiated instruction. You will leave with a definition of instructional activities, an understanding of how to create them, and then ways to match assessments to those activities.
